Fifty years ago, on the 31st of May, Willem Elsschot (Alfons de Ridder) died in his beloved Antwerp. What can the work of the creator of the immortal characters Boorman and Laarmans teach us about the current zeitgeist, in which shameless greed and thoughtless profit-seeking take their toll? Kees van Kooten (to be confirmed) and Koen Peeters talk about artistry and mercantilism in Elsschot’s work. Saskia de Coster reads a story inspired by Elsschot.
