Walter Zinzen
A few years ago, he was still the éminence grise of the VRT journalists and Flanders' most critical interviewer. Walter Zinzen said goodbye to his job with the news service a while ago, but he is still not one to retire. In his latest book, De wereld is een schouwtoneel (All the World"s a Stage), Zinzen wonders who exactly directs the world's stage these days. Parliaments lost their power ages ago. Voters are now largely responsible too, but they often lose sight of the public interest. According to Zinzen, that other important player, the media, is no longer the watchdog of democracy, but no more than a powerless lap dog. These days, real power lies with the multinationals, claims Zinzen. In De wereld is een schouwtoneel, he argues against this increasing globalisation.
In cooperation with Pelckmans publishers, deBuren presents Walter Zinzen’s new book. After an introduction by Prof.dr. Rik Coolsaet (International Relations, UGent), Zinzen will talk to VRT journalist Annelies Beck.
