In 2012 Jean-Jaques Rousseau was born exactly 300 years ago. Rousseau: a political thinker and posthumous national hero, novelist and composer but foremost a man whose ideas had an enormous impact on the intellectual foundations of European culture. But how valuable is his celebrated work after hundreds of years? What kind of man was he, what did he mean to say and can we still use his thoughts in this day and age?
