The democratic deficit II: More of The Hague in Brussels! Archive
Thursday 3 December 2009 - 20:30
Beursschouwburg, A. Ortsstraat 20-28, 1000 Brussels
At the insistence of its citizens, the Dutch parliament is demanding more say in Brussels. To further the democratisation of the EU, the ‘orange card’ is soon to be introduced. Its introduction will mean that national parliaments can stop bills going through. Belgian politicians are opposing the idea saying it would interfere with European cooperation. A debate with Euro MPs Hans van Baalen and political philosopher Luuk van Middelaar. Moderator: Rik van Cauwelaert (Knack).
