Teun voeten: WAR Archive

Exhibitions

From Thursday 25 January 2007 until Friday 16 March 2007

deBuren, Leopoldstraat 6, 1000 Brussels

Although the war photographer Teun Voeten is only half way into his career, he can already boast an impressive output. While a student of cultural anthropology at Leiden University he was already starting out on an almost endless series of voyages around the world and has used Brussels as his operating base since 1992. Voeten has been a close observer of conflicts in ex-Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Colombia, Afghanistan, the Chechen Republic, Liberia, Sierra Leone and more recently Iraq, Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. In a manner that is penetrating, sensitive and uncompromising he shows us the world's trouble spots and publishes his work in National Geographic, Vanity Fair, Newsweek, The Guardian, Frankfurter Allgemeine, De Standaard, Vrij Nederland and other periodicals.

In Belgium, Teun Voeten has so far not received the recognition he deserves in the form of a retrospective exhibition. deBuren is now offering you the chance to discover the work of this committed citizen of the world and will use the exhibition as an opportunity to hold two debates with the photographer on the chaos in the world and the dilemmas facing a war photographer.
