The popularity of halal is on the rise but what does it mean exactly? Is it a new trend? Can science be made halal as well? Some religious fundamentalists don’t think so. The small number of academic publications point in the same direction: 46 Muslim countries together are responsible for a mere 1,17% of all academic publications. Are science and halal incompatible? Or is that too short-sighted?
