As of the 3rd of May 2012 Extra City and deBuren welcome the retrospective Chasing Shadows - Thirty Years of Photographic Essays by the renowned South-African photographer Santu Mofokeng. Mofokeng became famous for his photographical essays in which he brings into focus the underlying stories behind daily newspaper covers. The exhibition presents an overview of his photographical work of the last thirty years.
Opening
On Thursday the 3rd of May (7 pm) the exhibition will be introduced by Corinne Diserens, curator and Philippe Pirotte, former director of Kunsthalle Bern.
Santu Mofokeng
Mofokeng became widely known for his photo series that focuses on the underlying topics that lie behind the daily news stories. The exhibition, accompanied by an extensive monograph, brings together a unique selection of the photographic essays that Mofokeng developed over the last thirty years.
Sharon Lockhart
Parallel to Chasing Shadows, Extra City exhibits Sharon Lockhart's installation Podwórka (2009). Lockhart's subtle social portrait fits closely to Mofokeng's work.
