Joep Leerssen, lecturer European Studies at the University of Amsterdam, claims in his most recent book Spiegelpaleis Europa that Europe doesn't exist. Every attempt to define a ‘European Culture' is doomed to fail, because Europe is a myth according to Leerssen. Is Europe a subjective concept? If this is the case, what are the consequences for European integration?
