It is gradually becoming a tradition: the last Thursday of January is Poetry Day in both Flanders and the Netherlands. Poetry plays a central role for one day of the year. The Flemish-Dutch House deBuren, will organise - together with HOB an afternoon - and evening programme under the title of Europe in verse. Poets from Flanders and the Netherlands, the new European member states and candidate members states will read from their own work and talk to one another about the status of the poet and poetry and about Poetry Day.

Guests will be Johan de Boose, with a special performance of his poem 'Shake America', David van Reybrouck, Mustafa Stitou, the Estonian poet Jaan Kaplinksi and Sibila Petlevski from Croatia. The presenters will be Piet Piryns and the poet and head of the Dutch Literary Museum in The Hague, Anton Korteweg.
