Prof. Hans Oerlemans, a meteorologist at Utrecht University, has a passion for glaciers. He is an expert on the interaction between ice caps, glaciers and climate. His work has been published in Nature and Science and he has also worked as principal writer for the IPCC (Intergovernemental Panel on Climate Change). Oerlemans is a 'dissident' meteorologist: "I firmly believe that the temperature is rising on earth, globally and probably slightly more in the polar regions. However it would be unrealistic to predict that in 2050 climate changes will bring about floods of migrants. We simply do not have sufficient knowledge to do this. My hobbyhorse is that our diagnosis of the present system is still incomplete."
