Every species has its ideal number and the Homo Sapiens appears to have surpassed that number a long time ago. The expectation is that by 2050 there will be 9.5 billion people on this planet, every one of them entitled to the same standard of living. Must birth control stop the increasing population? Reinout Verbeke (Eos) talks with lecturer gynaecology Marleen Temmermans (University of Ghent) about the current problems regarding family planning, fertility and overpopulation. Where do the medical and ethical boundaries lay?
