Apendrop, bielzen, Brussels manneke, dropkabels, heksendrop, krepeliendjes, meeuwenflatsen, topdrop, visjesdrop?
Those are all sorts of Dutch liquorice (drop), which is quite unlike the sweet black candy known elsewhere as liquorice. On Tuesday 21 November, Dutch liquorice mania reigns at deBuren. In the framework of the Week of Taste (16-26 November), Dutch experts will be at deBuren to tell you everything you always wanted to know about veterdrop, trekdrop, amsterdammertjes, salmiakriksen and muntdrop. At last, you will find out where the British got their Liquorice Allsorts and the Swedes their 'pepper balls'. This mainstay of the Dutch culinary heritage is one you cannot afford to ignore. To drop or not to drop, that is the question! Whereas pharaohs and emperors used to savour this delicacy daily at one time, the Dutch have been feeling a little abandoned lately. deBuren is going to change all that. Drop aficionados will give you the opportunity to try out all sorts of drop and will help you determine their origin and quality.
