Documentary films in Flanders and the Netherlands: the best of 2007 Archive
From Tuesday 18 December 2007 until Wednesday 19 December 2007
Beursschouwburg | A. Ortsstraat 20-28 | 1000 Brussels
The best Flemish and Dutch documentaries of 2007 will be shown on 18th and 19th December. The aim is to give a better picture of the documentaries made in the Low Countries, and to further the discussion regarding common ground for collaboration and co-productions. After each film has been shown there will be a public discussion between Flemish and Dutch filmmakers, producers and broadcasting representatives.
In December 2006 and April 2007 deBuren in Brussels and the Fund for the Stimulation of Dutch Cultural Broadcast Productions in Amsterdam organised several encounters between Flemish and Dutch programme makers, broadcasting staff and producers. They discussed the future of art and culture in public broadcasting in Flanders and the Netherlands.
Among other things the discussions argued for more documentaries on art and culture on television. There are many cultural subjects that provide highly suitable material for documentaries that can be broadcast on both Dutch and Flemish television. In principle, therefore, an obvious step would be for these films to be made in collaboration. Or are there obstacles preventing this?
