deBuren and Vrijstaat O. present the harvest of their residency program citybooks Ostend for the first time. It is going to be a real festive weekend as Ostend is the first city of the European citybooks project. On Saturday the 25th of September we will start with the laureate of the essay contest ‘Beste Multatuli...’ (Dear Multatuli,...). In the framework of the official Multatuli year, Judith van der Wel will give the fourth Multatuli lecture and talk to Willem Bongers (deBuren). Subsequently we will present the citybooks Ostend. Benard Dewulf recites from his citybook, a short story Fragmenten uit Oostende (Fragments from Ostend).
... With one ear, this town listens to the by nature indifferent eternity, with the other ear it obeys the call of the immediate, the mercantile, the banal. And the seagulls fly over it all as winged, ghoulishly laughing ghosts....

After the presentation of the citybooks Ostend, executive director Dorian van der Brempt will open the photo exhibition of Martijn van de Griendt who portrayed the coastal city. We will conclude with drinks and live music!
Sunday the 26th of September we will continue our program with a literary encounter moderated by Anna Luyten. She recites a fragment from the citybook by Milena Michiko Flašar; Jeroen Olyslaegers, Christiaan Weijts and Peter Holvoet-Hanssen recite from their own citybooks and talk to Anna Luyten about their experiences in Ostend. We will conclude with aperitifs and sandwiches
