Picture this? Spain. Sun, although a little less globally warmed up than today. Not a living soul in sight. A woman's gaze scans the desolate landscape for a way out. She is sitting on a coffin. A two-year-old child wearing a bonnet is standing enveloped in her skirts. A little way off there are some people appearing after all. Once good people, a hint of a royal household. They take no notice of the woman. They accept her foibles as a small price to pay for freedom. Her mind is filled with flashbacks. The woman becomes nervous and calls out. Initially it is a sound without words and then she despairingly utters the the name of the corpse she loves "Philip!".
An important detail here is the fact that we now find ourselves in the year 1508, or thereabouts. And this is only the opening sequence! Add a couple of lutes, tambourines, and the sound of horses" hoofs and we have the soundtrack. We are ready for Crazy Jane! Jane the not-so-mad, also known in the Low Countries as Zot Jeanneke (Crazy Jane), is the fateful heroine in the road movie script and comes complete with carriage and coffin. Indeed this also has all the ingredients you need for a psychological thriller, a romantic epic and a sitcom with a three-year run!
Hilde Van Mieghem and Chris Van Camp talk at deBuren about their wild plans for the script of the first purely talking film. Ariadne Vanden Brande and Jokke Schreurs sing about love and Lotte Dodion talks about it.
