Charif Benhelima: Black-Out Archive
From Friday 23 March 2007 until Friday 11 May 2007
deBuren, Leopoldstraat 6, 1000 Brussels
In Charif Benhelima's latest series of photos, called Black-Out, which he took while at the Kunstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin (2005 - 2006), he takes his Polaroid experiments a step further. The ordinary things he depicts - a pigeon, a basketball, a row of trees - are still just visible. He is questioning the nature of our perception: how much information do we need to know what something really is? Very little, it seems. Black-Out is a gap in our memory, a blank in our identity. The Black-Out series by the Belgian artist Charif Benhelima is still to be completed, but it is deBuren's privilege to be the first to show these photos.
