deBuren, Leopoldstraat 6, 1000 Brussels
For many years the singer and songwriter Johan Verminnen has in his songs been voicing his unconditional love for Brussels. When he moved from the small suburb of Wemmel to the thriving city of Brussels he found himself in another world. Brussels changed him from the boy he was then into the theatre personality he is today.
With the encouraging words of no less a figure than Toon Hermans, the young Verminnen won the 1969 award for the TV gala Ontdek de Ster and has been extremely active ever since. The combination of talent, passion and collaboration with a better class of musician and artist, such as Raymond van het Groenewoud and Stef Bos, has made Johan Verminnen a figurehead of Dutch-language music. Great hits like Laat me nu toch niet alleen, Rue des Bouchers, Brussel, Mooie dagen, Ik wil de wereld zien and many other classics are engraved in our collective memory.
