'The Entrepreneurial state' - government investments instead of austerity plans

In the pamhlet The Entrepreneurial State, Mariana Mazzucato (University of Sussex) argues that the role of the state in economic growth and innovation is systematically underestimated. In february 2012 the EU research program FINNOV, led by Professor Mazzucato, published a report that proposes radical change to get out of the crisis and a system in which role of the state as an investor is more clearly defined and recognized. On March 6th Professor Mazzucato is our speaker for the fourth edition of the series ‘It’s the Economy, Stupid!’. Her talk is followed by an interview by Piet Depuydt (De Tijd).

Philosopher Hubert Dethier was one of the first students of Leopold Flam, a well-spoken, flamboyant professor at the VUB. He underlined the importance of Eros in the development of Western thinking and wrote about the vulnerability of the individual thinker, the misunderstanding and thinking against the grain.
